Hello, friend, and Happy New Year! I'm here for this year's Critmas, spreading happiness through constructive, positive commenting! I saw this piece while browsing through the critiqueables and while I don't actually watch Steven Universe myself, your rendition of this character is just... Stunning. I had to give you my thoughts.
I love the almost roman Catholic sort of look this piece has, with the way the body is shaped and the slightly small head. It feels like something I'd see in a stain glass window or as a portrait in a church. The colors here are beautiful and while I can't give you too much credit for the choice of base colors, I can say that the hues you've chosen are lovely. The bright plum/navy color of her dress really stands out against the pale blue and off-white. Her expression seems very sorrowful, as though she's grieving for someone or something.
The only thing I can really harp on would be the jewel in the middle of her chest. It doesn't quite look like it's in her chest as the style of it is different from the rest of the style. It would've been cool to see the skin maybe stretch around it or have more indication that it is, in fact, in her skin, but it looks more like it's floating in front of her instead. I also think that a different color for the background may have been a good idea, as it's a bit too bright, which lessens the impact of her bright skin and hair.
Even so, this is a gorgeous piece and the character looks amazing in this style. There's so much about this that's right that it was hard for me to come up with things to really criticize. This is a beautiful piece and I hope you're very proud of it, because you should be. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title=" (Smile)"/>
Hope anything I've said here helps! If you have any questions or need me to clarify something, just let me know. Happy New Year, my friend!
